My mom has this collection that you wouldn’t expect from someone dainty like her… magnets! She just loves everything with magnets in it. My dad and I would tease her about it. Whenever we enter a novelty shop, chances are my mom will go directly to the magnets section. She loves it that much!

When my sister and I were younger, we would bring a magnet for my mom because it s guaranteed to make her smile. And it did each and every time we brought her one, no matter how big or small it was.

She is just so easy to please

This coming week will be a hectic one for me with meetings left and right. There will be meetings with my team, one with my boss, another with the new accounts people, and one more with the top man of the company.

What I like about business meetings in the company is that it is almost always conducted outside the office. Mostly in cafes or in restaurants where there are special business meeting rooms. The one with my boss and with the top man of the company will most likely be held in a cafe located at the ground floor of the building where our office is located. The others will surely be held in restaurants. So it won’t be that bad, really.

Still looking forward to the coming weekend as my family and I will be heading out of the country for some much deserved break.

I was asked by a speaker in a seminar I attended with some friends how strong I am as a person. Physically, I said I am as strong and as steel buildings. I don’t get sick unless I get no sleep at all. I also can withstand extreme weather conditions. I guess my parents did the best when I was still a baby and my immune system is this good.

I always consider myself as a strong person. Not just physically but in all aspects of my life. I must give credit to my parents who taught me and empowered me as I was growing older. They let me explore and in the process discovered my strengths and weaknesses.

How strong are you?

My best college buds are both getting engaged! I accompanied them in buying the engagement rings and both have run their plans with me. I will be tagging along in their proposals so I can videotape it for them. Ahhh… love is in the air for my friends! I am getting antsy thinking of my own love story to write.

Seriously, I am happy for the both of them. Both of my college buds have been in a relationship with their women for a couple of years now. Both have known their women since high school. I just know it will be a very happy year for the both of them with all the engagement parties and best wishes that will come their way.

My cousin Pansy dropped by my office to visit. She was in the area with her business partner and they were canvassing for the best barcode scanner they can use for their store. Pansy is the consummate entrepreneur in the family. Can you imagine she is already a businesswoman at the age of 14? She started that young! And now at the age of 28, she already has several businesses under her name in different industries!

She also told me she dropped by because she was not able to give me a holiday gift. She brought a box wrapped in fancy paper and when I opened it at home, it was a fancy chess set! It was a totally unexpected gift and I love it!

The fancy chess set is now proudly sitting in my small living room center table.

My dad is asking me if I want to tag along with him and my mom to Ayada Resort in Maldives. They will be going there this coming week and will stay there for 3 days. Of course, I said YES right away! I forgot that I have to check with the office first if I can get away for 3 days…

Well, I am keeping my fingers crossed that my boss will allow me.

I think I mentioned a couple of times already that I have a sister who is a professional investments consultant to several small to medium business enterprises. She deals with the top individuals of the company and is often invited not only on business functions but also on personal events of the people she deals with. One of those personal events will take place this coming Saturday night. And for that she is shopping for fancy dress outfits. The event will be for a CEO’s 50th birthday bash and all those invited will have to wear a costume. My sister will go as Belle minus the Beast.

I have always equated success to position and lots of money in the bank. But as I grow older, I am seeing it clearly more and more. Success is not just about position and money. Success is about learning as we go along the way. Success is about conquering our fears and taking risks and coming out of it alive.

You may not see success as what it is but I suggest to look deeper in yourself. If you feel contentment and peace… if you feel happy with your life… then that’s success!

Best man again.

One of my numerous male cousins will be tying the knot a few months from now. He formally asked me to become his best man and, of course, there was no hesitation on my part when I said yes. It is an honor to be chosen a best man and I appreciate it a lot!

So I will be holding the eternity bands they will wear as their wedding rings. My cousin told me that as soon as they get it, I get to take care of it for them. My cousin has a history of losing stuff so it better be me than him, I guess.

Another one will tie the knot in the family! I am sure as soon as the parents hear about it, they will talk to me again about settling down soon. Hahaha!

Uncle Matt and his entire brood will go to Orlando, Florida this coming April. They will go to Disney World and will go to the relatives after their week-long Disney trip. When I went to pick up my cousin Hans, they were already going over disney hotels and making a list of things they will be bringing with them.

I told my parents about this and they said as soon as the nephew turns 3, we will all go there!

Aside from the trip to Disney World, I am excited to see relatives I haven’t seen in years! I hope we can go one of these days…

I will get them sterling silver bracelets. I heard a co-manager talking about bracelets and I joined the conversation. It turned out that the co-manager’s wife ordered a number of pieces of it online and she is reselling it now because she changed her mind about giving it to her friends.

I bought two. They are for the girls in my life: my mother and my older sister. I will give it to them this coming Sunday when I go to the parents’ house for brunch.

Can’t wait to see their reaction!

One of the things I always quote when I am talking to my agents is this…

Humility is a must when you want people to remember you for a long time. You work hard and you are on top. But if you are arrogant and overbearing, people will always remember you for your bad attitude and not for the amount of work you put in.

If you are humble, trust people to always remember you for being the hard worker that you are.

Trust me. I’ve been there in the past and I know people who are both ways.

I might be going out of the country next month for training. My boss told me over lunch last week that they are already considering the managers going for a training. I was originally the number one to go because I might head a new account but the COO of the company is happy with my performance with the account I am handling so he is still thinking whether to send me over or not.

Well, I have mixed feelings over training for a new account. First off, I love my team. They are the best people I’ve ever worked with. Second, if I go for training, I’d be out of the country for at least two to three months. That’s too long and I don’t know if I want to be away that long. Lastly, it’s too risky to head a new account. I’ve been handling the same account for the past three years and it’s the most stable account in the company I don’t know if I want to give up that stability.

My boss told me if I will go they will set up a web conferencing solution so I can stay in touch with everyone from time to time and attend management meetings along with the other managers who are going.

Do I really want a change?

My parents have been married for the past 33 years. Can you imagine that?! A couple staying together that long… wow!

These days, a couple with a 20-year marriage is already considered lucky. What with the numerous temptations surrounding both men and women. Plus the media helping them justify their wrongdoings. A shame actually! So anyway my parents are awesome people. I want them to know just how much I appreciate having them for parents that I always give them stuff, either small or lavish ones, to show them how much I care.

This weekend, when I come over for Sunday brunch, I will give them both titanium watches. I saw it online and thought it will look good on them.

It’s getting hot in the city and the sun is shining brightly until mid-afternoon. It is really time to bring out the sunglasses to protect the eyes from the rays of the sun.

I go to work around lunch time. It’s not good for me to drive the car without sunglasses on because I easily get bothered by the glare of the windshield. We all don’t want any road accidents so it’s best to come prepared for the sun.

Sometimes I even wear it at night because there are bad drivers who don’t know how to use their headlights!

The past three weeks I’ve been working so hard always doing overtime work each and every single work day. I come home so tired I end up going to bed the minute I step out of the shower.

This week I intend to take it easy. I won’t be doing overtime work this week. I will go home on the dot. I will find time to do other things at home, maybe watch TV or clean the fridge.

You should take it easy, too! We all deserve it!

I am so proud of my cousins! They are either already at the management level of the companies they are working for or already successful business owners. Some of them are both.

One such cousin of mine who is working for a multinational company as a human resources director also owns a spa business. She can talk both HR issues and spa covers to anyone and you would think she’s just an ordinary person trying to make both ends meet. She has that attractive simplicity to her that you will either want to join the company she’s working for or want to get services from her spa business.

I am telling you my cousins are great!

Denny asked my sister for help with regards to small business equipment financing. He is a distant relative who grew up with us in my parents’ house along with some other cousins of ours. He is opening a laundry business with his wife and they don’t know how to go about getting financing for the laundry machines they are investing on.

My sister is helping them out now and soon, Denny and his wife will be launching their business. They intend to open one small laundry shop first then plans to open another one after six months.

I just know the business will be a success. Knowing Denny, his determination will play a big role in it.
