In a matter of minutes

Almost every one in the office was talking about the death of the grandson of the head of the Philippine National Red Cross. The guy, who’s just 26 years old, fell down the veranda of the condo unit where he lived with his grandma, his mom, and his older brother. He just took a cigarette break.

Who would have thought, right?

It was said that he might have sat on the railing of the veranda and got out of balance so he fell down four stories below. He didn’t die right away but it was reported that he suffered a smashed elbow, broken ribs that pierced his liver, and some other broken bones.

What struck me about the news was the fact that he was so alive and healthy. In just a matter of minutes, his life was taken away from him. His last words were: Mom, I’m in pain.

I don’t want to die like that. I want to be able to say goodbye to my love ones. I want to be able to turn over my possessions to my family. I want to prepare everyone and tell them how much I care for them and appreciate the years I spent with them.
