Education for professionals

Getting an online degree is one of the alternative ways a professional can continue educating himself. If you are working from 8 to 5 daily, how can you get your master’s degree? Transportation alone, especially when there are traffic jams, will eat a chunk of your time. By the time you arrive in campus, it might be closed already.

The solution would be to get a degree, like an online teaching degree, via the web. Make use of your internet connection. Even in the office, just as long as you are allowed to. Anyway, your degree can be a tool to make you a better asset of the company. Two of my staff are taking their master’s online.

For a degree online, go to Western Governors University. It is a fully accredited online educational institution that is affordable and caters to professionals like you and me. Visit their web site now at www.WGU.edu for more information about them.

Time-conscious explained

This is in reference to my previous RT/WW entry…

I have been really time-conscious lately. I feel like there’s so little time to finish so many things. Specifically at work. So these days, I make use of my cellphone’s calendar and alarm a lot. To be sure that I will get to everything I need to do.

I don’t get enough sleep and rest for a few weeks now. But I am planning a getaway where it will be all about ME and chillin’ out!

MYM – Pasta

MellowYellowBadge

pasta

The last time, I tried making pizza and ended up burning the crust. This time around, I did not attempt to cook anymore. Instead, I made some salad for the cousins. Lucky for me they really liked it :)

Feels like cookin'

chefThese days, I feel like cooking all the time. I think the influence came from my cousin who’s studying to become a chef someday. I find it cool that he can whip up a dish in minutes, making it look oh-so-easy!

So I did try to make pizza, and ended up burning the crust. I tried making french toast and succeeded (ha!) as well as soup (albeit out of can haha). But I think I am getting there ;)

My cousins love coming over my place when they know I’m there. And when they hang out at my place, I feel like feeding them something I whipped up (trying to be cool!). LOL Next time, I am sure I can do something better. Salad, perhaps?

Las Vegas by December

The whole family will be traveling once again to Las Vegas by December. Our family’s annual reunion will be held there again. As early as today, my sister is checking out plane tickets and getting travel insurance quote for all of us. We don’t have any problem with accommodation since we will be staying with relatives anyway.

I am excited with this annual trip to Vegas. It’s a time to bond with family and relatives. And year after year, it’s a blast spending time with my cousins. I am looking forward to this trip and have already asked my boss for a one week leave of absence which he already approved!

No to the other OD

I would like to think that the other Operations Director in the office, not my immediate boss but one directly over me, is just glad for my company. He always asks me to accompany him everywhere. My boss was angry with me the last time because after lunch, the other OD asked me to go with him to the steam cleaners and it took us two hours before we were able to get back to the office. By that time, my immediate boss was already looking for me for an hour!

I explained to my boss about it but he told me that next time, I should learn to say no. He’s right. But it’s just so darn hard to say no to a boss.

My fear

My cousin, Rick, the doctor, is looking into colon cleanse to form part of the services he can provide his patients. People are becoming more and more aware about colon sickness because of the spotlight the media has put on it. My fear is to get sick with colon cancer. I heard it’s common among the men. It’s a blessing that no one in the family’s been sick with any colon-related sickness. But there’s always the first one, right?

Rick told me that it’s all in the care of what we put in our mouths. Everything in moderation. If we eat a lot of junk, then we should not be surprised if we get sick eventually. But if we balance everything, then chances are cancer will pass by us.

My friend's mom

A friend’s mom passed away recently. It was like her mom planned for it in a way. She took out a term life insurance with my friend as the beneficiary. She then fully paid her burial benefits and made sure that she got the lump sum payment for her pension. And she took care of more documentation that my friend might need in the future.

And then she passed away in her sleep.

I told my friend that her mom was really a good person. Even in her death, she was able to provide for her. Even when my friend’s already old enough to take care of herself, she took it upon herself to settle things and prepare the future for her. I wish all moms are like my friend’s mom. I know I am lucky to have one.

Holiday weight

My sister asked her doctor for some appetite suppressants. It’s the holiday season already and she’s afraid she might gain so much weight. There are parties to attend to. And she’s sure to eat a lot this season because of the delicious food served on these occasions. So to make sure that she won’t indulge so much, she’ll be popping in suppressants.

In my case, I don’t care if I might gain additional weight. I can always shed it off after since I am regularly going to the gym again.

Christmas gifts for the cousins

I’m already starting to buy gifts for my numerous cousins. The hassle of having so many relatives is when you have to buy each one of them a gift you think they will like. I’ve bought this equestrian apparel I saw at a specialty store last week. I think one of the little cousins will like it. I actually bought two because I might give one to a godchild.

And then I got a couple of mp3 players, a few books and some accessories. I hope I am on the right track on this. I only have myself to blame if they wouldn’t like the gifts hehehe

Skinny boss

One of the female bosses at work is trying out phentermine to lose weight. I can’t understand why she still wants to lose weight when she’s looking so skinny already! People in the office are talking behind her back about it. I guess it’s her prerogative to be skinny but then when I see her, I get worried that it might be affecting her health.

One of these days, when I muster enough courage, I just might talk to her about it. If no one in the office is stepping up and asking her about her health, I will. I just hope she won’t find it intrusive or anything.

Stress-free look

A free acne treatment is being offered to the operations people. It is an extra benefit being rolled out by the human resources department. Operations people are so stressed out, and with the coming peak season, more pressure will be put on the shoulders of the people. Acne and other skin problems are cropping up and the HR people thought it would be better to get them some help.

This is a good idea. In my team alone, 90% has skin problems already, brought on by stress. I have advised everyone to avail of the benefit for a stress-free look this coming Christmas party celebration.

Kelli's battle

One of my female college buddies, Kelli, is enrolled in an austin weight loss clinic. She was obese and she struggled for years losing and gaining weight. She was always on a yoyo diet and it turned out really bad for her. She developed diabetes and is now firmly resolved to lose all those unwanted pounds in her body. I say, good for her!

The last time we were able to chat, she has lost 30 pounds already! She wants to lose 40 more to be able to be near her ideal weight. And the rest, if she’s successful in losing 40 pounds more, she will lose slowly, over time.

I know she can do it. She’s one of the most determined persons I know. And this battle with the weight, she will surely end up the victor!
